"I really like arcade games and like the '80s and early '90s kind of games, just because there's a real kind of naivete to them, but there's like a real inventiveness to it as well."
- Taika Waititi, New Zealand film director of Thor: Ragnarok, screenwriter, actor and comedian
Oh to be standing in a classic arcade with friends playing wonderful arcade games. I grew up in a time when arcades with games like Dig Dug, Popeye and Space Invaders were a great way to kill time and spend allowance money. Unfortunately, being born in the mid-80's, games like those were slowly making their way out the door to make room for ones that spit out tickets and consoles like the Super NES, Game Boy, Sega Saturn and PlayStation were making their way in.
No longer would you have to leave your house to play your favorite video game, just convince your parents to by you weird electronic devices and you would be home more often to be yelled at for not doing your chores. It was still a great time, in my opinion, to grow up because you still spent a good amount of time outside playing and hanging out with your friends, yet brag about being the first in your neighborhood to have a gaming console or even a computer if you were extremely lucky.
Knight Designs' has paid homage to those classic games I've known and love at Totally Tweens this month and it certainly brings back some good memories standing in line to play X-Men: The Arcade Game with five of your friends. I always got irritated by people who lurked behind you, waiting for you to meet your doom with not enough tokens to continue and take out the final boss. Now I just get irritated at how much grinding you have to do in No Man' Sky! xD
